hippocratenesmus
Hello all! (Not sure if this particular forum is the best place to ask this, but I couldn't find a more appropriate one...) I'm currently in my first year of medicine and I'm not sure where I'll end up residency-wise, but I will likely end up choosing FM, and maybe do one of the 2 + 1 programs. My question is, what kinds of opportunities are there for working abroad in FM or other 2 + 1 subspecialties? For example, would it be remotely possible to work as a GP in, say, France after completing a residency in Canada? What about underdeveloped countries? It is possible to do locum-like work in other countries? I've heard that working abroad is possible with FM, but I haven't heard of any specific examples. ANY help or advice with respect to this would be greatly appreciated
NLengr
For first world countries, it's probably highly country specific. For volunteering in the third world, it should be easier, provided you have linked up with some kind of aid agency.
TracyK
Look up the medical associations in the country of interest. They usually have info posted. I believe there are many places you could work, although you may be required to write an exam first.

ubcredfox
New Zealand is very friendly towards Canadian grads with almost immediate recognition of your standing. So that's where I'm headed! I think Oz is quite similar, but there's a bias towards having you work in more rural areas.
