dental123
I go to uoft.. in my first year I had a terrible gpa of 1.5 ( I was only taking 4 credits and even failed a 0.5 credit).. to say the least, I messed up real bad. In second year, I worked really hard to get a decent gpa of 3.85. Obviously my cgpa is still very low. I'm in my third year now, and working as hard as ever trying to get that 4.0. So far I am doing well. I was just wondering, do you guys think even if I have a great gpa in my third year that I'll still have no chance at dentistry? uoft's dental is my dream school but I do understand I messed up real bad in my first year. What are your thoughts and advice for my situation?

zap_man99
same with Usask, but in regards to U of T, if you take 4 years, they will drop your lowest years mark (so apply in your 4th year and they will only use years 2 and 3)-they also dont use the current years marks dont worry, it was only 1st year, although some US schools might look at that. just make sure u dont limit yourself in your DAT (ie carving)

I heard this phrase so many times, and my oppinion is to wait till you have that 4.0 GPA in your hand first before planning ahead Hope that helps
determinat0r
Aim to get the highest marks possible, surround yourself with positive influences and people who will motivate you. Sacrifice 2 years with hard work and dedication and it will pay off. WORST case scenario if even your best doesn't pan out (I know how it is sometimes at U of T) as mentioned above Western looks at your best 2 years...so there a lot of possibilities in the future. For now though, just work extremely hard to get those interviews!

Because it truly is a process that doesn't happen overnight. My first year marks weren't great... So I busted my a@# for the remainder of my degree. My two best years (final two) are what got me into school. Stick with it and you'll succeed!!!!!
