GPA calculation issue

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else has an incorrect cumulative GPA calculation on their supplemental application. It says I have a 3.72, despite U of C saying I have a 3.95 (worst year removed) and OMSAS (total with no years removed) being 3.90. I emailed them with my concern but was wondering if I should call or have other people encountered this problem? I definately qualify for the worst year being removed as I took full course load ( 5 and 5 ) every year and have completed my degree.

I am experiencing this same issue. My GPA from UofA appears to be my overall GPA...maybe they haven't dropped the lowest year yet? I am going to e-mail them. Not too sure how they calculate GPA anyway but if it's similar to how UofC does it then the UofA calculation is off by about 0.1

If anyone e-mails and hears back from admissions regarding this issue please post their response. I will too :)

I'm wondering the same thing as well... I tried to call them but they gave me no indication as to how the cGPA was accounted for other than telling me my lowest year was removed. This cGPA is over 0.02 points lower than u of c and 0.05 lower than my omsas score. Seems a little off.

For applicants, who have different GPA calculation between U of A and U of C, consider which year is your worst year.

1. For U of C, the worst year is dropped if you are in fourth year now or have completed the degree as long as you took 24 credits per year. It does not matter which year it is.

2. For U of A, your worst year is dropped if are in fourth year now or have completed the degree if you have taken 30 credits in one year and have at least 18 credits in other years. However, there is a caveat. If you are in fourth year now, they will not drop your third year (most recent year) and if you have completed the degree, they will not drop your final year. Also, they will not drop your only year with 30 credits.

Generally, OMSAS GPA is lower than U of A GPA since both A and A+ are 4.0 for U of A. Just make sure, in your calculation of U of A cGPA, you are dropping the correct year.

Cornered, in response to your post, I took 30 credits in 3rd and 4th year and finished my degree last may. My totals according to calgary are:

1st year - 3.97 - 28 credits

2nd year - 3.88 - 28 credits

Summer - 3.85 - 4 credits

3rd year - 3.75 - 30 credits

4th year - 4.00 - 30 credits

Degree completed in May 2011

Therefore shouldn't my 3rd year be removed then due to I qualify, which would end up in 3.95 ish aGPA similar to calgaries?? Definately not 3.72, they must have read my transcript wrong.

I think you should definitely speak to someone in registrar office.
