Update email from York (definitely over the misreporting of UofT by every news source ahaha)

The mediator has requested that the University and CUPE 3903 not comment on the progress of mediation until it is completed. The University is respecting the mediator’s request at this time.

The Senate Executive Committee met today to consider the implications of a potential labour disruption on the academic activities of the University.  This meeting is a step required under the Senate Policy on the Academic Implications of Disruptions or Cessations of University Business Due to Labour Disputes or Other Causes.

In a communication issued earlier today, Senate Executive has indicated that at the outset of a disruption, if it were to occur, all academic activities, classes and examinations will be suspended at the University except for a minimal number with distinctive characteristics. Senate Executive also assured the community that it is committed to dealing quickly and sensitively with academic implications if they were to arise, and will communicate decisions that it makes widely and promptly.

This communication from Senate Executive has been posted on the Senate website.

While progress continues to be made at the table on a range of issues, recent sign-offs have largely been on relatively minor proposals. The BT continues to urge the Employer to respond more seriously to the Union’s core demands if it wishes to avoid strike action by CUPE 3903 members. -Posted February 28, 2015

The final bargaining meeting with the Employer and Conciliator will take place on Sunday, March 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in 280N York Lanes.

Most likely there will indeed be a strike.

U of T still has school during their strike which I don't understand. ( Just no Labs, tutorials and no midterms)

Will York still have school?

No, save for a few exceptions. Classes will be canceled. Mainly because of how many contract professors there are and how much actual instruction they provide compared to tenured/full-time profs.
