Count as ECs?

I was wondering whether the following can be included in the ABS:

 

1) Participating in research studies as a subject

2) Participating in dance lessons

3) Doing sports as hobbies (not competitively), also who could verify this?

A rule of thumb that I went with was would you be willing to dedicate valuable interview time talking about the activity. The dance lessons and the sports could be useful in showing that you have other interests and that you balance your life out. The research subject doesn't immediately strike me as talk-worthy (based on my own experience signing up for studies as a first year) but if you gained something from the experience that you think you'd like to bring up then include it.

Research studies is a course of study and therefore, does not qualify as an EC in my view.
