Senior Thesis: patient populations?

Are we allowed to use patient populations in a senior thesis (4th year UG)-or are we limited to student volunteers?

By patient populations, I mean TBI, depressed, schizophrenic, etc

I guess this is more geared towards psych research

People in my psych department used patient populations. They were the ones who basically just jumped on board with whatever major project their supervisor was doing, and did a sub-project on that. I definitely know of one individual in my honours class who worked on a project with depressed teens, so it's possible. It would mostly just depend on your supervisor and whether you can get the ethics approval.

A colleague in the pathology 4th year thesis was working in a clinic alongside his supervisor collecting information and actually hands on performing tests on patients, so I guess it just depends on the department, supervisor and which facility you end up doing your research in
