What books are you currently reading?

I just finished Chronic City by Johnathan Lethem, which was okay - fun but bloated and really incohesive (although that was sort of the point, I guess). It was like a Phillip K. **** book that didn't let you know it was like a Phillip K. **** book until you got 3/4 way through.

Reading Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood right now.

EDIT: lol word filters

Leisure books, not academic.

I'm currently reading Love Anthony by Lisa Genova.

How are you finding this book?

I read Still Alice and Left Neglect by Lisa Genova and absolutely loved them.

good but scary. Some of the subplots in Still Alice regarding patient rights I found disturbing.

I just finished reading all the Terry Pratchet discworld novels. Fun light reading.

synthesis: legal reading, reasoning, writing in canada for something i'm preparing

i literally have no fiction in my house, lol, the closest are two big books on the history of asses, and secondly, books... in fil and photo in the last hundred years... only in france... i have tones of mags though... adbusters, gq, guitarworld, alberta venture, fortune, maxim and fashion mags from my fashion designer friend, mixed with some economist, scientic americans, some scientific americans, and guitar players... plus a bunch of erotica novels from a few gf's... but honestly, no attention span... i'd rather watch a porno

Dance with Dragons by George R.R Martin. The 5th book in "Game of Thrones" (actually "A Song of Ice and Fire) series.

Anybody have any good books to recommend? I'm waiting for books to come out in all of the series that I'm reading....

I'm reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. It's pretty hype; light philosophical reading that'll make you think. A lot. Those are the sort of books that I gravitate towards, anyways.

What kind of books do you like, anyways? The type of novels you'd read in a lit class? Science-fiction? Non-fiction?

Three Days Road by Joseph Boyden

Phenomenal book! Make sure you check out the sequel, Through Black Spruce

I liked the first three but I stop at the beginning of the 5th, I didn't like it as much as the others.... Even the 4th was quite slow in my opinion, but the end was better.

If you like medieval fantasy, I suggest you read the Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. One of the best book I've read for quite some time :)

I'm currently reading Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, good medieval fantasy.

Is it actually about motorcycle maintenance? Might be interesting, grew up in a house hold dedicated to cars and am a bit of a gear-head myself!!

I'd rather read than watch TV so I gravitate towards the fantasy--get to use my imagination. Haven't really gotten in to the science-fiction. I've read some good non-fiction books--but the problem is they tend to be too short and I just devour them :o

Ken Follett has an interesting series going: historical epic “The Century Trilogy" deals with WWI in the first book ("Fall of Giants") and WWII in the 2nd ("Winter of the World"). The 3rd book is yet to be released... I'm assuming based on the 2nd book that is will be about the Cold War etc. A really interesting perspective on the wars from a variety of people in different countries and social classes.

What's your all time FAVOURITE book?

Love Medieval Fantasy! Will have to look that one up!

As for GOT, I found I really had to slog through the 4th book.. but the ending really made me want to read the 5th. I'm halfway through and it's alright so far..

What the dog saw by Malcolm Gladwell

It's a collection of articles he wrote for the NY times.. So there are some interesting, some not so interesting parts. I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm also reading Atlas Shrugged. Mixed feelings about it.

I really enjoyed all of Sanderson's books. :)

Currently I'm re-reading a bunch of L.E. Modesitt Jr.'s "Recluce" books. He is definitely one of my favourite fantasy authors.

If you like Sanderson's books, read the Wheel of Time series, you'll love it! He's (Sanderson's) written the last three books of the series (the original author died before they were finished).

I can attest to WOT. I read 10 or so of them last summer. Very well written. Haven't gotten to the books where Sanderson took over. Are they as good?
