gunsnroses
Hey guys, I am currently a resident of Ontario but I had a question about In Province Benefits. One of my parents was offered a job in Nova Scotia and I was wondering, if the job was accepted and he moved to Nova Scotia, would I also be considered an in province applicant and receive the same benefits as the others from Nova Scotia applying to a school such as say, Dalhousie while still maintaining my Ontario residence status? Thanks!

jojoluvsu2
You can't claim residency in two different provinces at the same time. Not sure how they would check this though.

There are ways to obtain in-province status for medical schools in different provinces though.

aaronjw
You can't claim residency in two different provinces at the same time. Not sure how they would check this though. Depends on the definition of residency. I live in York Region as my principal residence but own property in Ottawa as well. As a landowner, I am entitled to a vote in municipal elections of both yet provincial and federal elections I am only allowed to vote in the district of my principal residence. So it goes back to what's defined as a residence.
Birdy
There are ways to obtain in-province status for medical schools in different provinces though. Yep. When I apply, I fit the 'in-province' criteria at three schools. Two because of where I live (PEI, and we have agreements with two schools) and another - Mac - because I lived in Ontario for more than four years after I turned 14. I could gain Alberta residency status, while maintaining PEI residency status, if I went to Alberta to study full time at least a year before prospective admission, since time away fom PEI as a full time student doesn't count against my residency status. Mac would still consider me IP, giving me IP advantage at five schools. Because the policies are so varied, it really is possible to fall under more than one IP status. Several schools do insist that you not apply under more than one province of residence, though, so I only plan to use one IP status per application cycle.
