dang18
Any idea what proper attire is for the evening socials? Suit? Tie? Jeans and a sports coat?
Renin
Casual. Depends on the venue, though. If it's at a swanky swank place, then dress appropriately. I wore jeans and a t-shirt (I think) to mine, with a blazer.
rogerroger
It can vary a lot. Funny enough the subculture of the specialty also plays a role in what people tend to wear. This reminds me of an experience I had last year on the tour. At one school the program I had applied to was having its CaRMS social at an Irish pub type place. I wore casual but nice stuff. A sweater and dark jeans combo or something which worked well for this given venue. Funny enough another specialty, which I will leave to your imagination, was having its social at the same time, at the same place, but in the basement. The bathroom was down there and when nature called I went downstairs. I was blown away how different the atmosphere was. People were wearing dress shirts and ties and it was a very different vibe. Not for me... I quickly ran up stairs to rejoin the more chilled crowd. If you are in doubt it can't hurt to fire the organizers a quick email. It's a harmless question.
