Sfire
I just have a couple of random questions about residency and research that I was wondering if anybody could help out with. These are based off of things that I have heard. 1. Is it better to do research with an MD vs. a PhD since an MD as a reference is more respectable? 2. Medical oncology at U of T is a competitive fellowship that requires publications to get into. And by extension, internal medicine at U of T also needs heavy research/pubs. The reason I am currently in a bit of a dilemma. As a first year med student, I'm choosing between doing two research projects. One is my original idea that I want to try, and the other is helping a graduate student with their project (with a guaranteed publication). I really want to pursue my own project, but I'm not sure if it is better to go with a safe publication (although I will probably just be running experiments). Thanks for the help guys! bloh
Rule #1 of research: There's no such thing as a guaranteed publication.
nebula22
I agree with Bloh but do what really interests you. Oncology is too cool though. NLengr
I agree with Bloh but do what really interests you. Oncology is too cool though. Surgical oncology > med oncology though.....says the surgeon. As for research, I wouldn't say any residency demands HEAVY publications from it's applicants.
