My chances (2nd year)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I have finally decided to register for the forums. I want to know what people think my chances are at interview?

2nd year applicant

GPA (first year): 4.0 from U of C

1st semester of 2nd year: 3.97

MCAT: 11 Bio, 11 Physics, 11 Verbal Q writing

I will be finishing up the pre reqs this year, I really hope I get an interview and get a shot at this.

Here's some advice:

Expect to get in after your fourth year. (If you're a good applicant)

Apply in the meanwhile to get familiar with the process (applications/interviews/etc.)

Continue to work very hard to maintain your grades/extra-curriculars, yet try to enjoy your time in undergrad.

If you get in, that's great! If not, you'll know how to prepare for the next cycle.

As it sits, your stats are pretty decent. If you have a good EC section, you might get an interview. From there, it pretty much depends on your interview performance.

Thanks for the replies. My EC's are modest right now,

1. Volunteering at hospice since HS

2. Swim instructor/lifeguard 4 years

3. Tutoring 1 year

4. other minor volunteering

5. trip to south america to help in medical clinic.

6. CPR instructor 1.5 years

7. Swimming (recreational), training for triathlon

No research

I hope I can at least get an interview!

I interviewed last year as a 2nd year at U of A. I was pleasantly surprised to get an interview since my GPA and MCAT were both lower than the averages (and lower than yours), but I did have extensive ECs which I think really helped.

So I would say that you have a decent chance at getting an interview. Last year we found out mid-February (right before U of A Reading Week).

Yes I'm IP and I had a 3.8 GPA and a 27Q on the MCAT.

I spent the next three months in shock that I even got an interview since the stats online were much higher than mine.

EC-wise: I've volunteered with a youth organization for 5 years, was on exec for university clubs and worked as part of a student staff team during the year. I had also published a research paper and won some national scholarships for volunteering.

I loved the MMI last year, even though I was really skeptical that I'd get in.
