wolfgang
Hey everyone, In the General Premed Forum, a question was asked regarding how likely 3rd year applicants get into medical school. As for dental school, does anyone know if getting accepted as a 3rd year applicant is likely? I'm currently in my 2nd year at York, goal is to get into dental school. But im debating on whether I should apply next year or wait until my 4th year. Thanks
reddishh
one obvious and most important question: what are your stats?
wolfgang
Hi, Sorry about that, my stats: 2nd Year Biology at York 3.92 cGPA (hopefully winter term goes well) Haven't written the DAT yet, will write in November 2013 Extracurriculars: - Research Practicum at York this year - Potentially an NSERC USRA upcoming summer (already applied, hoping I get one. It's my first time applying) - Volunteer at a local Church for a Youth Group (for the past 2 years), currently shadowing a dentist (for the past 2 years), volunteer for several organizations that run free dental/medical clinics in the GTA - play basketball in a house league and that's pretty much it so far. I know my extracurriculars aren't up to par as all the other applicant's I've seen on this website, but any constructive advice is much appreciated. thanks
zap_man99
canadian dental schools dont care about extra curriculars (exception mcgill?)-helps in interview though as you have more experience GPA is good enough for all dental schools-convert into % for western and sask. you DAT will have to be good for U of T (PAT and AA avg ~22/23) and most out of province (depends where you apply, avg ~23)

So I figure 3.92 is pretty competitive for UofT? I've seen and heard of people with much greater GPAs getting rejected and it has me questioning what truly constitutes a competitive 3rd year applicant:/ Well, here's to studying for the DAT the entire summer to get that PAT/AA 22/23. thanks again, my regards. aravis
In my opinion, it wouldn't hurt if you applied. Who knows, you might get in after third year and save five to six thousand dollars from not doing another year of undergrad! Just try your best and keep your school options open. Good luck
