Six Weeks Left

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am a long time lurker on these boards- I have decided to finally join in the fun ;)

We currently have approximately 6 weeks remaining until the acceptance, regrets or wait-list e-mail links are received! Exciting stuff.

Hope everyone else is doing a better job at keeping their mind off this 'next step'- I have failed at doing so haha.

As we get nearer to March 15, I wonder if their wording hints at an earlier release.

"Decision Letters for the 2012-2013 application cycle will be released by March 15th, 2013."

I'm not-so-secretly hoping that they release the letters earlier!

I thought the same, but folks at the forum say that Dal sticks to the date that they set. Read the last page of the thread "News from Dal - Verifier Checks".

But if they do send out decision letters before that, I know that we aren't the only ones who are going to be happy about that. *Fingers crossed*

If there was someone on the inside who could let me know of the outcome of my file, I would ask them right now. Being able to know what's in store for you ahead of time can help you to think about your next steps in advance.

Just so the forum knows, Dalhousie accepts two IMGs into their third year of the medical program every year. They need to interview just like we do, and their interviews were just at the time of our interview weekend. They got their decision letters a few days ago.

While I'd like to think that this suggests we'll get ours sooner, I wonder how many International Medical Graduates (IMGs) were interviewed....likely not 300. The difference in workload could probably account for the earlier decision. However, is there a section on the admissions website that gives a date for IMG decisions? Was the decision release earlier than the date listed on the site? If that is the case, then maybe there is hope!

Just over two weeks left until March 15!

I find it hard to believe they would send out acceptance letters on a Friday. It's just too much information going out on the last day of the work week. I think it might be earlier - but probably just by a day or two. My prediction would be Wednesday the 13th. If not, *dun dun dun* - the Monday after the 15th!

I don't think there is a section on the admissions website that mentions when IMG decisions come out. You are right about the numbers of IMGs that are interviewed. It is surely not in the hundreds, but rather 10 to 20 individuals who are interviewed.

The forum might like this. Once the IMGs finish clerkship and their residency, they have to come back to Nova Scotia and practice medicine in rural areas for a few years. That is because of a contract that they have to sign with the Government of Nova Scotia.

I am a bit out of the loop now regarding admission letters, but when I applied 4 years ago, Dal was supposed to send out acceptance letters on March 13 (Friday). They sent letters through regular mail, and so I actually got my letter on the Thursday, March 12. Some people not living in the city of Halifax didnt get their letter until the Tuesday after.
