EC requirements for UWO

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I am a SWOMEN status applicant with 3.92 wGPA and decent MCAT but no ECs. What are considered as good ECs for UWO? I have no idea where to start...

ECs don't matter for getting an interview at UWO :). For other schools they do, though, and it's best not to have all your eggs in one basket.

you prob want something to talk about at the interview in response to "tell me about yourself.", but yeah. whatever fulfills that criterion.

Yeah the interview is closed so before you get to that stage there isn't any formal assessment of ECs. Still you have to talk about something :)

wow thanks for the quick reply you guys... so let's say that i do get an interview based on my GPA and MCAT scores... now when would my ABS come into play?? it seems like my list of ECs will look very poor and empty compared to other applicants...

lolly that's what we're saying. the interview is closed, so the panel doesn't know anything about you. if you receive an interview, then if you want to show them what you're about, you'll have to rely on your "life, in general". that's how your ABS comes in. i assume you made one on omsas. use that as prep for what you wanna talk about in the interview (should a relevant question come up). other than that, whatever's good. if you're a boss with words and sentence structure, maybe you can make your life sound more interesting(? :P )

mmmm pretty sure they use gpa and mcat as cut offs, then comes interview. after interview, it's anyone's guess as to what they do. note: that could mean they weight your gpa and mcat and interview, weight the interview 100%, or pick names out of a hat, or, as monty python peeps would say, "something completely different".

Honestly though as long as you have the SWOMEN cutoffs you should get an interview with your GPA (as long as you have met the other Schulich criteria in terms of classes) An interview at this stage probably has a higher bearing in their overall choice, otherwise what would be the point of taking SWOMEN with lower MCAT scores??

Just to clarify when you say you have no ECs: you may just be using too narrow a definition of "extra-curricular". Surely you've done some kind of jobs, hobbies, sports, or SOMETHING outside of school. It doesn't have to be a structured, organized activity - anything you do outside of class could count!
