FutureDoc6666
Does anyone know anyone personally who was accepted to an Ontario medical school as a third year applicant? What should I be aiming for to be competitive GPA and MCAT wise? How can I stand out?
xniper
I believe western does not take 3rd year students, western requires a 4 year undergrade degree

Toronto will for instance - it is pretty rare but can be done. Extremely high GPA, they don't particularly care about the MCAT over cut offs and outstanding ECs are required. It is hard to be exact with for requirements with their holistic system but I think 3.98+ gpa springs to mind etc.
aRnonymous
As far as I know only Toronto will, and it's rare.
stryke22
Queens and Mac both will take 3rd years as well, but once again its a rare thing!
tb123
Mac doesn't really care what year, hence they take so many. For UT and Queens 3.98+ and a 35+ mcat (Queens only), with some stellar ECs (varsity athlete/ high level research) is the norm
ByrdPac
One of my best friends got into Ottawa as a third year applicant. He was shocked himself they interviewed him and allowed him to get in. He was like , "I'm doing something academic I'll only tell you if it works out." Then I get a call on May 14ish 2010, saying dude we need to talk. He commuted to school in the States lived in Can got all As expect for 1 A- in first year, which gave him 3.99 GPA. Amazing extras/ABS doctors, research, hospital etc. IMO unless you are a master of ECs and have a cGPA greater than 3.98 than do not waste your time applying. Not to mention you need the character and maturity to beat students who have completed degrees, Masters/Ph.D. for the position If finances are not a problem then by all means go ahead and apply in your 3rd year just know the competition is tough. You don't need to be THAT good to get in as a 3rd year applicant. My ECs are average, and yet I've gotten interviews. I know people who got accepted with a much lower GPA and ECs that were not stellar (but still very good) as 3rd year applicants.
