IamIDP
I made a thread earlier but since then the administration has changed our grades again. The class avg for ecology2050 was too high, but instead of a real bellcurve... they lowered everyones grades that got between 80-84% to a B+ and left everyone else's mark to what they "earned". Can the department do that? One of my friends is planning to hire a lawyer, will this help? Thankyou.
peachaso
Check your syllabus. If it says something to the effect of "grades will not be curved/adjusted" then you might stand a chance. Or if it has a clear grade scale and doesn't say that the instructor/department reserves the right to change it. If you get a lawyer involved you better make sure you have all the 80-84% people involved (i.e. a fair amount of people). Otherwise you risk becoming "that person" who all the professors know of, and not in a positive way.

There was no official syllabus given to us unfortunately:http://ecoyorku.org The prof gave us a link to the website and that's about it. As for hiring a lawyer, so far it's me and a couple of my friends are involved. We will likely do it later this week after midterms are dealt with. But I know theres more than dozen people who were effected so it would help if some of them get in contact with me through PMing me.
UofTkid
I would advise against this. Most profs lie, cheat and deceive when commenting on the purposed content on final exams cuz that is what gives them room to make unfair= hard exams. UofTkid
what was the class average? if it was anything above 70% the linear adjustment was warranted. that happens at any university and the fact that the class average was ABOVE 70% (if it was) at YORK means the class average would have been 90% anywhere else (people that go to york are, generally, less intelligent) where is the LIKE button? lol

I <3 my school. In all fairness I feel bad for you people complaining about these bell curve things.

The class average was never released, so we can only speculate. And your a naive idiot to think that. Plus you can't even spell or form a proper sentence. I <3 my school. In all fairness I feel bad for you people complaining about these bell curve things. Interesting. I've never seen the class average for any of my courses. I've seen it for individual portions of a course (midterms, assignments, etc.) but I've never seen it for the final exam or for the final course mark. That said, I've never had a mark "bell curved" either. If the marks are too high going into the final, the prof just makes the final exam difficult. That's what happened with my physiology course last semester - class average was in the 80s going into the final. So the final was brutal. I still came out with an A+, but lots of people had their marks drop significantly.

Plus we didn't get a curve, it was more like the lowest 80's got pushed down to 79%. No one else was effected.

bpatient
I should order my transcript to see class avgs, and really FrenchToast only class was below 70!? (Was it biostats haha) Wow, your year must be smarter than mine
IamIDP
I thought you said people with 90s got pushed to B+ When they first released the marks, there was apparently a mistake. Ex. Some people with 90% got a B+. But they fixed those and released the marks Friday. But apparently only the people who got low 80% got pushed down to a B+ and no one else was effected. This wasn't even a bellcurve. Completely injustice.
FrenchToast
why are you mad though? I'm not, haha. I was just commenting. I've had to order transcripts for things the past few years, but even if I didn't, it would probably be worth the $12 to satisfy my curiosity . I think you'd actually be shocked at how high the averages are - I doubt my year is any smarter. But LOL no it was surprisingly not biostats. Biostats was 73. It was neuropsych (psych 2220), which was 69. Shockingly enough, the 70 was second semester orgo, which is actually so weird because the midterm average was over 80. If I weren't too lazy to photoshop out my identifying info, I'd post the transcript just because I personally find it fascinating.

toastman
I loved 2220, who taught it last year? I think our average was around 72-75%. A 6% drop is quite big. Although high 60s/low70s are not atypical for psych classes. I'm not, haha. I was just commenting. Yaaaa. cleverusername
just how homely looking are you that you think York girls are hot? Lol Such a clown. Don't you have anything better to do on this forum than act like a tough guy or mock people? At your age, you've got to be one serious loser to act superior to people on a forum on the internet. Not surprisingly, you're a kine major though. Probably some muscle bound gym rat who thinks he's intellectual because he's learning pseudoscience in his kine classes.
