NOSM 2013 Interviews

Recommended Posts

Hello NOSM hopefuls!

I hope everyone got good news in their inbox this morning.

I thought it would be a good idea to start a new thread for interview discussion. Feel free to post if you got an interview! Use this spot to network if anyone wants to get together for MMI prep or to bounce ideas off each other.

Good luck to all!

They included the following information in the email:

This cycle, 1,974 applications were received for the 64 seats for the entering class of 2013. Approximately *320 applicants were chosen for an interview.

*Please note we have reduced the number of offers to interview from approximately 400 in previous years to approximately 320 this year. This was done because an analysis of previous application years showed that those applicants ranked below 320 have not been successful in ultimately being offered admission to Northern Ontario School of Medicine.

Hey I got one as well :) and that number was in the email, it said only 320 people got interviews.

So has anyone interviewed at NOSM before? I sort of feel like with less people it may feel more relaxed but I don't know if that's true...

Last year there were two weekends, both days, 2 time slots, across two campuses. So I think that made it 50 per slot, 10 per MMI group.

You're always going to be nervous at first but for myself, and most people I know, we relaxed and ended up having a fun time! And just remember: mess up one station and the next person doesn't know what happened so you get a fresh start every 10 minutes :)

I received an interview (march 23) but already have an interview with another school that day. Has anyone else had this type of conflict before or this round of applications and know how it is usually resolved? I've left a phone message and e-mailed NOSM this morning but haven't had a response yet. Thanks!

Give them a few days to respond. I believe they are understanding about these situations and will try to accommodate. You could also contact the other school at the same time if you haven't already yet confirmed to see if they are more flexible in terms of rescheduling.

Same problem here. Also emailed this morning but haven't heard anything back yet. I imagine they are pretty busy just now. I'm also interested to know how others have managed this in the past.

Interview is in Thunder Bay but I live in Sudbury...any insight?

If you are from Sudbury they may be trying to minimize the chance of you encountering interviewers that may know you and create a conflict. Last year I indicated I preferred Sudbury as my interview site but was given Thunder Bay likely for the fact that I had served as NOSM faculty for the dietetic program and had a thesis supervisor who was NOSM faculty. Makes the whole process more expensive for sure. I didnt bother trying to change the site so I am not sure if they are open to such requests. Personally I chose to concentrate on preparations rather than stressing about trying to switch.

Same conflict myself. Anybody have any luck getting through? I am out of the country so I cannot give a return number. However, no news through email either. Has anyone in the past been successful/unsuccessful in having an interview date change?

What a ride medical school applications are. Here's to a cup of coffee one day as colleagues.
