CEE_
Hi, Not all majors are created equally when it comes to scoring top GPAs. I know it comes down to individual skill sets and strong suites. However generally speaking what are peoples experiences with What undergrad majors are more suitable for scoring a top GPA. I know Engineering or Comp Sci may not be the best choice but then what is? what resources are available to identify this. Uoft has the anti calander UofC has the Universal Student Ratings of Instruction (USRI) Any suggestions very welcome.
Gymgirl8
Although there are some degrees which may be "easier" to get a higher GPA, it really depends on your strengths, and also the school that you're attending. In general, I would say engineering is tough simply because of the heavy course load (6-8 courses/year). Other programs such as any of the humanities can be tough to get really high GPAs simply because there tends to be more opinion based grading versus black-and-white grading which is more found in the sciences and maths. I would think that sciences and math may be easier to achieve a higher GPA, although these programs may be harder (in terms of more work) than other programs (humanities/social sciences). Again, this is simply my opinion (coming from someone who is much stronger in the maths and sciences), and I really believe you have to play to your strengths. Essentially you won't do well in a program that doesn't interest you and is not what you're inherently good at.
dazzle
I don't think there is anything to the science vs humanities debate. The hours scientists spend in the lab, humanities students spend in the library or reading for their next classes. However, I do think that within each faculty, there are easier programs (it's not as easy as identifying a whole faculty as easy). Look at the exercise programs I guess. But anyway, I find looking for easy degrees pretty vile.

Exocytosis
Psych is good if all your courses are multiple choice based. For essay-based psych courses it can be hard to break into the 90s.
NutritionRunner
Psychology. /thread Not necessarily. My two intro psych courses, while still being considered A+s, are among my lowest in terms of percentage grade. It really depends on the individual, their aptitudes and strengths, and how the various courses are structured and evaluated.
stealthy1
While difficult to think about, the best major is a discipline in which *you* are the most interested in.
FML.
While difficult to think about, the best major is a discipline in which *you* are the most interested in. This. Not only should you pick something you're at least a little bit interested in, but I also believe it's important to pick something that's not too far away from what you saw in your first ug. Really helps with the studying, you have an advance on other students and you think faster. Plus you're in a similar environment, so you don't have to adapt too much. Being in a familiar setting lets you focus strictly on the studying and getting good ECs... I saw people moving from sci to business/psych and they messed up. They're brilliant individuals, but you can't afford messing up a semester, so better be safe than sorry.
future_doc
It comes down to individual interests, and altitudes. There is no one recipe for all.
