Orangepeel
Hello, I am a 4th year UG planning to apply to Queens this fall. In my first year, I failed one FW course and also failed a course in the summer. However, in my 2nd and 3rd year, I attained 2 year gpa of 3.92. I scored a 37Q on my MCAT. I just wanted to know whether Queens would look negatively on my failed grades while reviewing my file? does this also apply to Western and Ottawa? Queens would look negatively at it for your cGPA BUT they also have a last two year GPA so in your case they won't look at it at all. If you apply next fall that would include your 3rd and 4th years so do well this year. Western assuming you were full time (5.0 credits) and met the other course load rules would ignore completely your 1st year as they are a best two year system. Ottawa only goes back three years so after this year is done again your first year won't count (again you need full time years). However your current year will count for a huge part of their GPA scoring ( 50% to be exact) - so do well this year. You didn't mention Toronto - did you do full time studies (ha reoccurring theme here) as in at least 5.0 credits each year? If so they have a drop a course policy and don't include summer courses anyway. You potentially could be competitive for that school as well. That in Ontario only leaves mac - we would need to see your overall GPA for that one and of course your VR score. I left out NOSM as that school is pretty restrictive to geography. In short, rock this year!
simpy
Historically as long as you meet the rest of Western's/Queen's requirements you should be fine (i.e. full courseload with 3/5 courses at your year level or above in 2nd/3rd year for Western etc). Ottawa is going to be a long shot because you are unlikely to make their cutoff via their GPA calculation. Check each website to be absolutely sure of your eligibility. But to answer your basic question, none of the three schools will care at all about your failure provided you meet their GPA criteria. Great job turning things around after first year.
