Conditional Admission

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My question is a little bit complicated, so please bear with me.

I've completed my BHSc last april 2012 outside of Ontario (satisfying all admission criteria) and have been offered an interview this year at UOttawa.

Upon completion of my degree, I had decided to do a year of studies overseas. However, the program I am enrolled myself in in september 2012, is extremely difficult (it is actually renowned nationally for its difficulty :( ). Despite my good wGPA from my BHSc, the current grades from overseas aren't splendid. Can this affect my potential admission to the UOttawa medschool? Will they be taking these grades into consideration?

Thank you for your time and help in answering my question (and soothing my stress, hopefully).

Cheers!

This is part of the criteria for admission once they send out offers

-The final grades show that the candidates have maintained their grade point average

-The selected candidates’ final weighted grade point average (WGPA) meets or is higher than the minimum WPGA established for the application pool for admission in 2013-2014 and according to their geographic status.

You have to maintain grades that ensure your wGPA is above the cutoff of whichever group you're from (3.7 in Ottawa, 3.87 OOO). I know someone who's offer was rescinded when his final GPA brought him under the cutoff (didn't matter since he chose another place as first choice anyways but called to ask Ottawa about it).

And I'm assuming that if you withdraw from current courses then that won't affect admission (provided you have a degree).

I like your thinking but the OP already has received less than stellar grades. The OP could, of course, withdraw from the present courses, but last semester will be on the record.

However, already having obtained a degree, are these courses relevant for affecting in any manner an acceptance? I would bite the bullet and ask? The question might be asked in a theoretical manner by a thrid party. Moreover, if acting upon your suggestion and withdrawing now from the last semester, would there be any meaningful GPA from one semester to jeopardize an acceptance? Why would there be a conditional acceptance with the degree already in place? It is not as if the OP was required by U/O to take further courses.

However, if the OP is only thinking of apply to U/O next year, I would withdraw from the present courses and not worry about the money lost. If in applying next year, on basis that Ottawa looks at last 3 years, I would assume if there is no completed year here, it would not be counted.

Excellent point! This could be a possibility.
