seattle_best
I don't know if you guys have heard of the Fraser Institute but its educational research organization here in Canada. They released their 2013 "school report card" a month or so ago: http://www.fraserinstitute.org/report-cards/school-performance/ontario.aspx Basically what they do is rank primary and secondary schools based on gender gaps, standardized test scores and tests below standard. Obviously, using standardized test scores isn't the best indicator of whether a school is good or bad but its definitely a decent one (as far as what we can measure). What I thought was interesting was the fact that you can change your search criteria based around things like the average parent income. If you try it you'll really see the effect of things like socioeconomic status on the quality of education/gender gap/special needs (%) and I know it definitely blew my mind because I always thought Canada really controlled for this kind of stuff. Also interesting is that there is a bit of a geographic monopoly thing happening also when it comes to good scores... I thought the whole thing was a really interesting indicator of different SES effects..
