akuma39
Is it true that make up exams are harder? I've been hearing that from a lot of people? I have to write a make up exam for a course in my program (med sci 2nd year) that I was REALLY sick for, and did not start healing till a day after so Im writing the make up, but now Im really nervous that its going to be much harder....I found its really not fair for people who were really sick because its not like I had extra days to study the material like those who fake it... so Im just confirming if its true? Big Bird
I'm at U of T and it may be different at Western. I know (at least sometimes) the makeup exams are identical. After all, it wouldn't be fair to give a harder (or different, which may end up having harder material on it) exam for people with a legitimate excuse. On the other hand, is having the exact same exam fair? Or even the same difficulty? Many people defer simply to have more time to study. Also, if the exam is identical and this individual is well-connected, they have a big advantage. So... My premed101 tip is to find out as much as you can about what was on the original exam! But be ready for changes.
FrenchToast
I've written a lot of make-ups for UWO med sci courses (all for legitimate reasons, like yourself). None were alarmingly difficult, so I'd assume they weren't any harder. As far as them being identical to the originals goes, I have no idea. On principle I won't ask anyone what was on the original, and after I've written, I kinda forget what was on it so I don't compare with people who wrote before. The one course that *may* be more difficult is cell bio. At least last year, the make-up would have short answer questions. I can't remember if that was just for midterms or also for the final, though.

Some profs will genuinely give the exact same exam, but this is actually pretty rare for finals at UWO... however, other profs will change the format of the exam. So say you find multiple choice really easy, the make-up might be written short answer; virtually testing the exact same stuff but instead of memory re-call you are actually applying your learned knowledge. If this is the case, they usually tell you ahead of time that the format will be different. As far are I know, they usually change up the final exam (writing two separate exams, specifically for those who missed the original final) but the level of difficulty won't change, so don't get psyched out! Good luck !
