CapNCynical Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Hello everyone. I was wondering if i could get your opinion on what to do in this scenario. I recently finished my BSc. and would like to get into medicine but my grades are trash. My yearly Gpas are 3.3/3.1/3.0/3.3. Those are full course loads. MCAT is 34Q (12/10/12) written in 2012. I was wondering if i could get some advice on my next steps. My current thoughts are 1) Could do an afterdegree in pharmcology and than apply for an MPH (Masters in Public Health). I'm not a fan of this scenario because in order to finish an AD in PMCOL id have to take 8 300/400 level courses with some research componnents + 2 analyatical chemistry labs in one year which i feel would be very difficult. The second scenario that im looking at is 2) take an AD in Honors Neuroscience, this would be 2 years worth of classes to increase my gpa. I could do an MPH afterwards here but that seems like im taking a longer albeit safer path. Finally im thinking about taking a 5th year of open studies and doing courses that i enjoy than applying for an MPH. This one is by far my favorite but i am bit worried about being accepted into the MPH afterwards since it is no guarntee. I also plan to re-write my MCAT this summer to aim for the 36/37 margin to help increase my odds. My EC's are pretty bland: 1 publication and 1 in review. Volunteering at a hospital and shadowing a doctor in his clinic. I'm also a St. Johns First responder. (Some swimming/diving stuff as well) Ok well, thank you for taking the time to read all this. Any advice is greatly appreciated. (Some stuff i forgot to mention im at the UofA and would like to get into a canadian medical school)

I've also heard that some universities require that the second degree is an honors degree?
future_doc Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 2nd undergrad need not be honours but should be in area of interest where you will excel and so, be competitive for med school.
