ciel999
I want to be buried. The idea of being cremated scares me.
Recoil
Cremated - Burial puts too much of a financial burden on the people I would leave behind. I'm dead, do i really care at this point?

WtsupDoc?
Stuffed and placed on display in the living room, as per Harley family tradition. LOL... so creepy. I don't get the burial thing. Takes up to much financial resources and space. Also, none of my family visits our deceased and buried loved ones, so I don't understand the point. To me if you want to remember someone I'd rather look through pictures than stare at some granite with their name engraved on it.

ellorie
Cremated. I don't like the idea of rotting. Also I would rather be scattered than stuck underground. Plus I will probably donate my body to science and I think after they use your body it's kind of a situation where cremation is more dignified. Orcamute
Between the two ; Buried, under a tree or some sort of living organism that can live off my nutrients and so my atomic energy can spread through the universe. I would rather have my body donated to a Medical School / Lab though. And after when they are finished with that ; bury.

I kinda like the cyclic nature of it all. But I guess if you're cremated your carbon ends up in the atmosphere anyways, and then it'll get captured by plants... ellorie
Hm I guess that's actually true. I can see how becoming part of another living thing could be comforting. If I did get buried I would want to do one of those natural burial things. Like, not in a coffin or a graveyard or anything, just in the dirt somewhere. Nietzschean Superman
I want my death to be celebrated. Not because I was who I was, but because another human being is deceased. A victory of nature against its cancer, a metastasis who ended up dying. The biggest party will be when humanity loses the game, but we won't be invited. Except for the fact that you are in cement box... you can't just go putting bodies in the ground anywhere you feel like.

WtsupDoc?
Say what? -- When they bury people in a cemetary the casket goes into a poured concrete box and a lid is placed on top after the ceremony. You don't get to decompose and "become one with nature." You turn into goo contained in a concrete box.

Hanmari
ummm no 10chars As far as we know, the dead no longer care at all about anything. I'm not saying that there's no reason to carry out the rituals - obviously they mean a lot to those who are still alive. I'm just agreeing with the idea that when I'm dead, "I" most likely won't mind whether I'm buried, cremated, donated to science, etc. I understand people have preferences while they're alive. But for all intents and purposes these rituals stay a thing of the remaining living people, not of the actual dead.

Hanmari
lol why not? I think I might've come off as saying that people only do the rituals to satisfy themselves, not in their caring about the dead. I apologize, I didn't mean that. My use of "for" in my original post was ambiguous. I know there's a lot of meaning and caring that goes into postmortem rituals. All I wanted to say was that all of that is (somewhat unfortunately) something that remains with the living and can't get across to the actual people who have passed away; and that as a result I have no preference for what happens to my body (or rather, the body) after I die. I hope that was the miscommunication, and that it's now cleared =)

I am not religious but many 'rituals' are done for the dead with religious underpinnings
