vdincale Posted May 5, 2013 Report Posted May 5, 2013 Hello everyone, I was wondering if any of the medical schools cover epidemiology in depth (apart from random classes on research methods)?

ellorie Posted May 5, 2013 Report Posted May 5, 2013 I believe we also have the option to take another round of it in the latter half of 4th year, potentially. The Epi education here is okay. Quite practical - I do feel much more equipped to evaluate the literature now.
Nixon Posted May 5, 2013 Report Posted May 5, 2013 We also have two blocks of it. The first one covers basic epidemiology and statistics. The second one is much more practical and covers critical reading of medical literature.

nosuperman Posted May 5, 2013 Report Posted May 5, 2013 As boring as it is, it felt like something that was very beneficial. I've taken research methods in few different contexts but it was nice to have specific training on medical diagnosis, number needed to treat, cochrane reviews and meta analyses, risk/harm/benefit ratios, etc. Didn't think I was going to learn anything new at the start of the course but definitely came out of it feeling better equipped to critique studies and do my own math.
futureGP Posted May 5, 2013 Report Posted May 5, 2013 most schools need some epi curriculum, or they won't get accredited
