Another LOC question

Recommended Posts

So I called RBC and interestingly they didn't even need to see an offer for med school. They went through the process online then told me I need a CO SIGNER because once upon a time i paid a phone bill 2 months late! Otherwise I have limited credit history (OBVIOUSLY I AM A STUDENT HELLO!)

What !!!!!

Does anyone know who actually specializes in med students at any bank? This is ridiculous.

Did need to see an offer because they probably weren't even processing it for as a professional student loan. They had no clue what they were doing. Common problem - and no they almost always don't really know who they should send you to. Med student loans are so rare it just doesn't really seem to get included in their training (think of all the loan officers working for a bank - probably less than 20 in the country do this). Really the online system should just have a question, is this a med or dent student and if so call this person.

Easy enough to fix though :) What bank(s) what is the school you matched to?

U of T....

I called the RBC number they probably forwarded it to some random hotline.

I made sure they understood this was for the 250,000 amount for med students. Anyways I made an appointment so hopefully in person it will work out.

Or else I guess I'm not attending med school this fall.

Don't worry, you will get it sorted out! You just need to talk to the right person, or maybe even try another bank.

Do you know why we have to give them a budget? and an already existing student loan balance?

Does this have an affect the credit limit at all?

I am guessing the budget is an exercise to help med students understand their future finances. If you have an existing bank loan and credit card (i.e. Revolving credit) this will affect your total amount. Government loans do not impact your med line.

ha, ha, random hotlines don't seem to have much success with med LOCs. Ahh the horror stories from those :)

Hi Catlover159797,

I am sorry you were routed to a hotline, that should never have been the case. At RBC, we have dedicated specialists who are trained to handle this type of LOCs. please use the following link to locate one in your area or close to the school you will be attending

Also, on the matter of a couple late payments on your credit history, a late payment is never good to have on your credit history, the important thing is that its all paid up now. In the application I file for my clients, I am making a business case to the bank for the funds. As long as there is no history of constant late payments, you should be ok.

Hope this helps,
