SmokedSalmon
Rumour has it that radiologists and family doctors make awesome partners - whereas certain types of surgeons do not. For curiosity's sake, what has everyone's experiences been (whether you're a current med student, resident, or attending)? Please share
seeking1
I know this isn't about dating, but I think there is a study out there somewhere that, among doctor specialties, psychiatrists are the most likely to get divorced. I think peds was the lowest divorce rate. Anyways, the data might have changed, so who knows.
seeking1
Both of us are in medicine. As with any committed relationship, make time, stay committed, work out the problem, be tolerant, and be willing to change and listen. In general, this. I wonder how similar it is to now.

Well, wouldn't you hate to be having a fight with your spouse and have them analyze your every reaction for some sort of disorder? (Kidding. Sort of. I know a psychologist who does that to her husband. Not sure if psychiatrists do it.)
Renin
I think it's because we have less tolerance for bull-crap. We have to deal with enough of it in our day-to-day, we don't want to deal with it at home.

I read an article once that said 2 physician families were more likely to divorce. And the rate of divorce went up the more surgeons were in the relationship. Apparently if you marry another MD you are apparently happier and have significant advantages over those who are in a single MD marriage. As a bonus you also apparently work less and have a greater family income. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10068390 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14508561 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16926953

However, none of them work less, they love their profession, have long waiting lists, as a byproduct have great family incomes but are too busy working to spend. Fullmetal_Biochemist
Dentists are not MDs, but many of them have quite a good marriage, since they have a 9-5 job (most dentists I know work around 30-35 hours a week), and make decent $ to enjoy life. I guess the stress level from long hours working and on-call significantly affects one's marriage. But on the bright side, MDs have greater prestige and better respect from the society, plus a higher salary than DMDs
future_doc
The dentists I know, at the higher end, work 3 days a week, teach at university and enjoy their other activities, be they sculpture or music.

I can see why two MDs who are married may work less. It makes sense logically. Two MD incomes would allow for a comfortable lifestyle with less hours worked. Maybe this would not be the case if the goal is to accumulate the biggest pile of cash possible? How this pans out in reality is probably very dependent on the couple. Life is too short to spend it all doing medicine...

Well, the married physicians I know love working as physicians as an important ingredient in their lifestyle and the great income is not relevant to their choices. They take about 4 golf weeks away to a warm climate.

Duel doctor marriages make serious power couples it seems.
future_doc
Well, these power couple, generally speaking, are not after the money, rather doing that they enjoy. However, the money they accumulate with the compounding effect ends up making them much more money than they can earn. And, of course, they can be quietly generous to their favorite worthy causes. You have to start inventing things to spend your money on at that point.

rmorelan
or a lot more if ur both radiologists Possibly so. Although us radiologists (or us early rad trainees) don't usually get married as we reproduce by mitosis. In the dark. ....we also don't get out much.
