Anyone hear anything? Anesthesia was pretty competitive this year I've heard.

Psychiatry had a relatively competitive year. All the Ontario spots filled except for one of the french speaking positions through Ottawa. Apparently there were unmatched individuals in psych as well.

I can confirm this comment. I'm still very surprised at that happening. Psych and family filled up pretty well this year, showing that nothing is guaranteed. Next year's class better take note.

Best to assume there are no easy safe havens really - all "low hanging fruit" eventually get noticed and overwhelmed by people applying to it. Since you only have one best shot at CARMS you have to make it count.

it's not really a matter of "low hanging fruit", as opposed to a matter of more and more people realizing the 1) Pay:Hour ratio is good in psych and FM; 2) the job prospects are better in psych and FM; 3) surgery specialties are on the decline.

They don't get enough money for running CARMs.
