Which Med schools do I have a chance of getting into

Recommended Posts

GPA: First year: 2.3, Second year: 3.4, Third year: 3.8, Fourth year: 3.8

On the mcat I got; 11/11/11

I'm guessing my only option is med schools that only consider the final 2 years of University. What are the Med schools that only look at the final 2 years?

Extra curricular:

- Research assistant at UofT (The Uni I'm in right now)

- Work at 2 different hospitals (Baycrest and Sunnybrook)

- I'm in a couple clubs at school.

- I'm a medic responder at my school. Pretty much first aid and CPR stuff.

- I run a small business on the side that is pretty successful.

If you could tell me which med schools only look at the final 2 years of uni that would be great and if anyone could tell me if I need something to be more competitive that would be great.

Thanks :)

You have a good chance at Queens since they look at last 2 years. Maybe Mcmaster depending on your cGPA. And depending on where you lived (rural areas), you may have a chance at Northern.

Unfortunately you don't meet cutoffs for Western and you're GPA is likely too low for UofT unless you do a masters and have some publications. And you need 3.85+ for Ottawa and so you don't meet the cutoffs there.

Queens and Western will look at your last two years. I would definitely apply to both - Western may drop their 12 in Bio this year (their cutoffs reflect the pool of applicants they had that year).

UofT is likely out, but it depends on what your weighted GPA is? If you were full-time every year you can drop 4FCE. I disagree with SteveP that a master's would help - no master's student this year (on the forums) got an interview with a low undergrad GPA. Having a master's and publications just doesn't cut it for them anymore.

McMaster is also going to very difficult unless you absolutely ace Casper (very low cGPA and your verbal may not be high enough to pull that up).
