Info for an OOP applicant.

Hey guys, new to the forums here, a lot of great info! Until I started reading up here I thought I was pretty competitive in the OOP category but hearing all these amazing applicants having difficulties gaining admission I'm starting to doubt my stats.

3 year degree over 4 years (not full time)

OMSAS GPA: 3.88

MCAT: 35, 11/10/14 (highest) 32, 10/11/11 (most recent)

ECs: below average - 2 years jr hockey, short term volunteer positions, a lot of work exp not health or science related.

I'm applying to McMaster, UofT, queens and UBC as OOP as well as UManitoba as in province.

Can anyone chime in on similar experiences or does anyone have and success stories of applicants with similar stats?

Thanks guys, cheers.

Not a story, but I'll chime in on some info.

You'll need to convert your OMSAS GPA to percentile for UBC. OOP this year was 91% I believe. A hard 91, so anything a lot less and you probably won't make it.

U of T doesn't have IP/OOP but a 3.88 is close, again, I think entering was 3.92.

ECs may hurt you, but it all depends I suppose. I THINK U of T puts a lot of emphasis on ECs but not sure as I'm not applying there. Someone who got in could certainly update on that.

I'm not too sure for the other 3.

I was wondering how the UBC percentile stuff worked...

I have a 90.3 cumulative (4 yrs), but they do adjusted for people who qualify...? Is this just a year off for a full course load all 4 years? Dropping 1st year would bump me so much.

Yea I figured it's a long shot for OOP. My GPA falls within the top ~5 percent at my undergrad institution but the conversions aren't to my advantage. I also have a few awards and a summer of research assistance experience, not sure if that helps much.

Anyways thanks for the replies, and good luck!

If you were planning to apply to Dalhousie this year, you've just missed the deadline.

If it's for next year, you should still apply. Although chances for OOPs are slim, your stats look similar to those accepted as OOPs.

Edit: Nevermind, didn't see you weren't full time. You need two years of 3.7+ of full time courses to be considered at DAL
