JustADream
Hi all,, Would appreciate some advice. I just completed the AAMC Verbal Self Assessment and scored 75/120, in other words the “average” score students got on these questions. Thing is, my MCAT is in 3 weeks and I have no idea how to improve within this time span. Should I post-pone it? If I don’t post-pone to October, any thoughts on how I can utilize my time best within the next 3 weeks to bring my score up a couple points? I spent the entire summer practicing and studying for this test, and these results have nearly killed any confidence I had left. Thanks for your time
StayHappy
Similar situation as what I had.. I scored a 9 with a slightly above average score on the SA despite doing tons of verbal practice. All summer I came up with strategies such as understanding passages etc. better, scored 10-11 on every AAMC . I found test day verbal to be centered towards my weaknesses (humanities). Doesn't mean much (anecdote) but I just find verbal to be a crapshoot. Improving past the 9-10 range is so unpredictable and I am not sure I could even improve much more if I had a few more months
B3.572A
Before you jump into any conclusions about your verbal ability, I would recommend you complete a recent full-length verbal (AAMC 7+) to gauge your preparedness. The self-assessment package does not, in my opinion, accurately resemble the real one. Among many other things, the distribution of easy/moderate/hard questions is not similar to any of the full-lengths.

I actually took AAMC 3 a week ago and was happy with what I got. PS10 VR10 BS10 This is actually my second time writing the MCAT. Took it last summer and scored a depressing 5 in verbal. I took all the AAMC tests over a year ago but forgot everything so AAMC3 felt like a fresh test. Could also be implicit memory so I don't know.. rewrfdsfdfgdfsgfd
Don't underestimate verbal though, it is very important. One medical school (McMaster) only looks at verbal. If you have the opportunity to postpone to feel more prepared for the verbal section of the MCAT, I would do it. Last tests are in January if I'm not mistaken. MathToMed
I actually took AAMC 3 a week ago and was happy with what I got. PS10 VR10 BS10 Please note that the AAMC tests were produced in chronological order, which means that AAMC 3 is the least like the real deal (though still good practice) and 9,10,11 are (reasonably assumed to be) the most similar.
