Simmba
Hi everyone, I've been prepping for my MCAT which is next week (argh!) and have consistently been getting 9-10 to my dismay on all VR full lengths. However, I just finished Test 9 int he EK101 book and got a comfortable 11 (34 raw score).. I am shocked. I found the passages to be easy and therefore I was more relaxed, which may have helped in active reading. However, I am beginning to question whether my improved performance was due to the objective "easiness" of the actual test or that my strategies actually worked (skimming more effectively, not over analyzing..bad habits die hard). What has been your experience with EK101 Test 9? Did you think it was "too easy"? I've going based off of the popular opinion that EK test scores are on of the more representative of performance on the actual MCAT. Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks! Ozymandias
So far I've done the first 10 tests in the EK 101 book.I felt Test 9 was overall a bit less challenging for me and I got a 10. However my marks have been gradually improving since the beginning (though it fluctuates). On Test 10 I got an 11, so I'm not sure if it's learning from mistakes or the passages are getting easier. I definitely feel I understand where I went wrong in the beginning though, and now I can much more easily narrow down the answers. I'll be doing Test 11 tonight so hopefully the trend continues haha. My MCAT is also next week and I want to be scoring 11-12 on these tests so I can feel a bit more confident going into the actual exam.
Simmba
Yeah I've been doing EK everyday now and have been consistently scoring an 11. But my AAMC practice is not reflecting this, still stuck at a 9-10... I don't know where I'm going wrong. I wish there was a way to re-do the more recent AAMC practice tests for VR, but the score you get a second time is completely inaccurate because you already know the main points of the passage. Are you noticing any trends for AAMC vs EK? Or do you find that generally you score the same? Maybe its the computer-based vs physical paper problem. Ozymandias
I'm actually the opposite now. Ever since I scored 11 on Test 10 in the EK 101 book, I got a 9, 8, and 10 on the next set of tests in that order...still have one to go (Test 14). But on the AAMC tests, my scores have a clearer pattern. The last three I've done I got 10 (31/40) on #8, 11 (32/40) on #9, and 11 (36/40) on #10. I much prefer VR on the computer though since I'm constantly checking the time on my phone during the EK 101 test which wastes a large chunk of time for me! How are you finding finishing the tests with respect to time?
Simmba
Wow nice upward trend on the AAMCs! What do you find is helping you most with improvement in the PS and BS sections? I can't seem to crack above an 11 for either. Hoping for better results when I write AAMC 10 tomorrow considering the MCAT is on Wednesday... I'm mostly finishing the EK tests before time, usually 10-15 seconds, I just wrote test 13 and scored an 11 and honestly all the passages I found a lot simpler than AAMC b/c of lack of Humanities-geared passages. I was looking back to earlier tests, and I find those there definitely tougher. With AAMC I'm generally on time/guess the last 1-2 as quickly and effectively as I possibly can. But I've never finished an AAMC VR contended with my performance.
Simmba
Haha never mind, I read your raw VR scores as full MCAT scores by mistake (hence the question about PS and BS sections). In any case, what do you find is helping you with the upward trend on AAMC?
Stegalls
Do you guys think that EK questions/answers/explanations can really be poorly worded/thought out of? EK was supposedly written by the author's brother.
