HeyLarry!
Hi everyone, Using EM as an example, if a student does an elective at a facility, U of T for example (and impresses reasonably well), does this tend to hold a big influence on whether or not they place for a residency there provided the graduate lists them as a top match? Thank you!
justletmein
If you want to match somewhere specific, regardless of specialty, then YES, OBVIOUSLY doing an elective there and impressing the staff will help your chances. .... but there are no guarantees in life and especially not in CaRMS. Renin
Rank them high - it doesn't really matter where you rank them as long as no one from the other programs wants you more Remember that CaRMS is weighted in favor of the canidate. Also - yes, face time is important. They are picking a colleague, after all!
rogerroger
This was studied by a group at UofT several years ago around 2010. The results showed that electives in ones specialty of interest is the most important factor which correlated to a successful match. The specialty of the elective was more important than location. This said, rotating through your first choice specialty in your first choice location should be high yield.
