Leon Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 Hello fellow Posters and Lurkers, The University of Toronto's Faculty of Medicine will be hosting it's open house this month. This year, we are changing the theme from Admissions (which used to be the focus) to concentrating on the actual med school experience. There will be interactive sessions that demonstrate how a typical UofT Med student's life is like and what learning medicine is all about. Join current students from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine for MED SCHOOL 101 on October 25, 2014, an open house event where you can learn about the MD and MD/PhD curricula from faculty and about why current students love U of T Medicine! The day will feature a keynote speech from Dr. Ritika Goel on physician advocacy, and student-led interactive cases where you can experience what it's like to be in medical school.Registration is required, as space is limited. To find out more and register, please visit http://uoft.me/MedSchool1012014 Here is the FB event: https://www.facebook.com/events/838024512915705/?notif_t=plan_user_invited Plus you get to meet me

futurefamilydoc Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 The last point alone is enough to get me to attend this Haha I haven't even gotten to met him (or her?) yet. Or maybe I have and didn't realize it!
Almighty Saguaro Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 If I may be so audacious as to include a general link for those of us who recognize Facebook as the root of all evil! http://www.md.utoronto.ca/admissions/Recruitment_Events/MED_SCHOOL_101__Open_House.htm
Almighty Saguaro Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 Thanks for posting this BTW, I probably would never have known otherwise!
jmira Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 Will we get an email confirming our registration? I signed up for this a while ago but haven't heard back... wondering if I should sign up again, haha. Also, I think it's a great idea that the theme is going to be focused on the experiences of medical students, since U of T is already very transparent with the way their admissions process works
StriveP Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 Out of curiosity, why is UofT med offering an open-house right now in the middle of midterm season... Wouldn't it be more effective to have an open-house AFTER offers are given out? -.-
ArchEnemy Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 Out of curiosity, why is UofT med offering an open-house right now in the middle of midterm season... Wouldn't it be more effective to have an open-house AFTER offers are given out? -.- I am going to guess that this Open House is more targeted towards students who are unsure about their decision to pursue medicine at U of T or pursue medicine at all. It is less targeted towards those who have already applied this cycle, since you would made your decision by now and submitted OMSAS (but you are most certainly welcome to attend). Those who are applying this cycle will get another opportunity to tour the campus and meet with the current medical students on the interview day. And when offers are given out, there will be another tour around the different academies.
Leon Posted October 5, 2014 Author Report Posted October 5, 2014 Out of curiosity, why is UofT med offering an open-house right now in the middle of midterm season... Wouldn't it be more effective to have an open-house AFTER offers are given out? -.- Midterms are always ongoing. So many courses have 2 midterms these days that there really is no ideal date. By the time you have interviewed and are awaiting an offer, you likely have a good idea where you want to go. This event is geared more towards future applicants and students who are just starting to consider medicine. While current applicants are welcome and will also gain a lot, this is not a "Why UT and not Western/Mac/Ottawa/Queens" type event.

bruhh Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 It's pretty bad timing since I have two 50% midterms on oct27 but I'll try to come
lost__in__space Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 Go and learn about the MD/PhD program!! :-)
Leon Posted October 5, 2014 Author Report Posted October 5, 2014 It's pretty bad timing since I have two 50% midterms on oct27 but I'll try to come Sorry about that! We also have to coordinate around the first and second year exams (the first years have quite a few of them) so it's challenging trying to find a time when everyone is free.
Leon Posted October 21, 2014 Author Report Posted October 21, 2014 Just a reminder that this is happening this Saturday- please come if you are able to! We really hope to demonstrate student life to you guys.
