Hopeful
Hello, Does anyone have experience with applying to multiple Ontario medical schools? I'm wondering if there is any way to attend one single MMI for all the schools? I'm from Alberta and would prefer not to fly there every weekend for a month. Any tips of bits of experience? Thanks! rmorelan
they don't coordinate their interviews that well, and all the MMIs actually have different content etc so they are not interchangeable. However you do often have an opportunity to exhibit some control over when your interview will be at some schools and line some up that way. Unfortunately for others you cannot and if you get multiple interviews there is a good chance you will have to come multiple times if you want to attend them all. bruhh
Man, just be happy you got multiple interviews lol. Go to the other cities, explore them, have fun, and ace the interview.
Friendly Magpie
I didn't apply to any Ontario schools but can understand that it would be difficult for some people to attend every interview. Return flights from Edmonton or Calgary would likely cost between $700 and $900 (unless a person lucks out with a seat sale when they happen to book) and accommodations and food would cost money too. It would be exciting to receive interviews from multiple schools, but as someone that doesn't come from a privileged background I can see how not everyone would have several thousand dollars to spend on going. The same is true for students in the east that apply to U of A and Calgary. They have interviews on different weekends (for obvious reasons), but it's not as if most people can just hang out for a week or two if they happen to get interviews at both schools. Although banks are willing to pile a lot of money onto students once they are accepted into medicine, the costs before one even has an acceptance in hand can be a bit steep. If I get interviews at every school I applied to this year, this application cycle will cost about 10% of my family's income this year. That's kind if a big deal for my family. Knowing there's a very good chance I may need to do this again is really daunting. It's a LOT of money.

I applied out of province as well in my year and ended up flying around the country. One thing that has to be factored is both the time and money needed to do it - I lost for instance about 6 full weekends for just the interviews and that is not including all the prep time as well. Then there was all the additional costs etc of the actual travel, getting the gear and clothing organized etc. Now that all has an impact on your schooling that term - so while of course it awesome to get interviews and ha, you shouldn't complain, there is still a cost associated with it all when you are still trying to get that ultra high GPA in case you have to apply again.
