Innovo
Just a question. I noticed the average age of accepted applicants at UofC is something like 24-25. The only conclusion I can draw is that some people apply a few years in a row after the point when they finish their UG (usually around 21-22) until they get accepted. So for those of you who got accepted when you were 24-25 years old, and assuming you didn't do any post grad, what did you do in the time between completing your UG and acceptance a couple years later? Working, chilling out?
bruhh
My question also!
not my real name
Remember that, because it's an average, that doesn't mean that there are actually lots of 24-25 year olds around (I am guessing both the median and mode would be lower). It is likely that there are lots of people in their early 20s, and then some outliers (grad students, ppl who changed careers, mature students) that push the average up. I would be surprised if there lots of people who graduated, knowing they wanted med, then waited around for a couple years. Just a guess. But, for those that apply several times in a row, it is probably a mix of grad school, doing extra school to bump lower GPAs, working, volunteering, etc... AIsForApple
Well the other conclusion you can draw is that these people are applying for the first time. Not everyone has known med is what they want to do, or some people (like me) didn't want to go to school for another 4+ years right out of undergrad. I'm just working part time/volunteering for now, and hoping to travel once winter hits.
Epona
In my class at least, there are a decent number of ~24 year olds, most of whom just finished a masters. There are also quite a few people that took a year off to work or travel, plus several PhDs that bring the average age up. I got accepted at 24, but my "time between" is a bit complicated. I thought I wanted to do one thing when I graduated, and then ended up on the path towards medicine. I worked, traveled, and did schooling in between undergrad and med. I think I'm fairly atypical. Most people who got in sometime in their mid 20s did a graduate degree in between undergrad and med (from my observation).
