Electives in the US

Has anyone doing meds at a Canadian school done an elective at an American school? Just looking for some experiences you might be able to share, insight into different programs and the application process.

I've looked at a few institutions and realize that a) you must apply early and they are often very strict with start and stop dates. Each institution has different requirements. Oh yeah, you need crazy malpractice insurance, which your Canadian school plan may not cover automatically.
