Pt - Gpa Calculation For Ut

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I was planning on applying to the PT program during the 2016 application cycle but I have some concerns since its not simply the "last 20 half course taken" but a weighted average of the outstanding courses from the previous year.

I did poorly during the Fall 2013 term and was planning on taking an additional 20 courses (an extra year and a term) before applying but I realized the whole 2013 year would be considered as an average for the remaining courses.

I know summer courses are taken as their own average but I was wondering in what order would they be placed in in terms of the "last 20 half courses taken".
For example, since 15 courses are taken in 2014 (Fall 2014, Winter 2015, Summer 2015) and 4 summer courses are taken in 2013 (Summer 2014) would only 1 course from 2013 (fall 2013 + winter 2014) be considered a weighted average course?

My last question is: based on my sequence below, how would I avoid or minimized the effect my fall 2013 grades have on my GPA.

2013

Fall 2013
6 courses - this is the term I did poorly on

Winter 2014
4 courses

Summer 2014
4 courses

2014

Fall 2014
5 courses

I'm planning on taking 10 more courses in the coming winter

Winter 2015
5 courses

Summer 2015
5 courses

I know this is confusing but I really appreciate the help

I don't really understand your post but I'll try to help.

If you are applying to start in September 2016 (application due January 2016), They will count the last 20 credits completed BY December 31, 2015.

  • SO, any courses completed from January 2016-April 2016 will not count towards GPA (but can be used as prerequisites)

  • If you take 5 courses in SUMMER 2015 (May 2015-August 2015), those courses will count individually, making up 5 of last 20 credits
  • If you take 5 courses in WINTER 2015 (January 2015-April 2015), those courses will count individually, making up 5 of last 20 credits
  • If you are taking 5 courses currently (September 2014-December 2014), those courses will count individually, making up 5 of last 20 credits
  • If you took 4 courses in Summer 2014 (May 2014-August 2014), those courses will count individually, making up 4 of last 20 credits
  • Now we have 19 credits. The last credit will be an AVERAGE of the GPA's for each course taken from SEPTEMBER 2013-APRIL 2014 (which would be the 2014/2014 FALL/WINTER TERM.

SO, even though your average in the 2013/2014 academic year is poor, it will only count as 1 of 20 credits for your application. If you really need that 1/20 credits to not be on your application, you could take an additional credit from September-December 2015.

Nothing previous to these 20 credits will be counted towards your SubGPA for UT's PT program.

Hope this helps!
