4Th Year Ophthalmology Electives

Recommended Posts

Hi, this is my first post to the forum. I am a 3rd year medical student at a Canadian university. I'm interested in ophthalmology and I have 2 questions about pursuing a residency position. Hopefully, someone with a bit more knowledge about the process can provide some advice.

First, I was wondering how many electives I should book in Ophtho to be considered a competitive candidate?

Second, Ideally I would like to get a residency spot at an Ontario university, but I would obviously be applying all across Canada. Since I only have a finite amount of elective time, do you think it would be advisable to do electives across the country (to show that I'm serious about going anywhere for residency) at the expense of not doing an elective at a preferred Ontario location?

Thank you.
