F508
Hi, I was wondering if any students/residents had advice about which medical schools to prioritize doing a pediatric elective at if you only had 3 choices. At which schools did you have the best experience? Did you feel like you learned more in smaller or bigger centers (e.g. McMaster vs Toronto)? Were there any universities that were wiling to allow students on visiting electives to start/do research projects while they were there? And how much does having research experience favor one's application in pediatrics during Carms? Thanks!
bloh
I am not in peds but as a clerk I did work with an ex-Toronoto student who said that there were far too many learners in Toronoto.
ellorie
I'd prioritize the schools where you are most interested in doing residency. Not only do you get to make connections and get reference letters, but you get to meet the residents and get a much better sense of the program than you can get on interview day. chickenfingers91
It makes sense to do an elective in places you want to go to, but if there are lots of learners, it's hard to get enough exposure to your preceptor for a good letter. F508
Does anyone have experience doing rotations for paeds at certain hospitals (especially McMaster, UBC, UCalgary, UAlberta and UofT)? Do you know which schools have really good pediatric hospitals?
chickenfingers91
I think locations with pediatric hospitals would be ideal.
F508
Are they also good in terms of teaching e.g. one on one time with preceptors?
