Question About Alberta Residency

Recommended Posts

So I moved to Alberta last summer and I'm still here. However, I am contemplating doing masters or a medical program elsewhere starting September. I would like to know if my IP status would be revoked if I study outside Alberta beginning September. Thanks

Sorry, I don't think you would be IP. The new (for the upcoming application cycle) residency definition is 24 consecutive months in AB (or NWT, Yukon, Nunavut) after your 15th birthday or 24 months army/rcmp active duty. The exception is when you're temporarily out of the province for vacation, going on exchange in school, or work, but it'd be up to you to prove that (and it doesn't sound like the case, unless you're going to NT, YT, or NU to study), and you'd be at their mercy.
