F508
Hi! Has anyone done pediatric electives at CHEO? Would you be able to share your experience in the department that you rotated in and give recommendations for good preceptors?
MrBojangles
Hi there, Pediatrics resident here at CHEO. Glad you're looking for an elective here - you will learn and get to do lots! In particular, Peds Respirology here is full of amazing teachers who are committed to education and providing a rotation where you get to see the full breadth of clinics and inpatient experience. A great way to learn about gen Peds topics like asthma, approach to cough, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, etc. Peds ID here is also known to be a great rotation. Ottawa is uniquely located with a large refugee population and cultural diversity which lends itself to different tropical diseases you will consider in fevers in a returning traveller. The staff here are amazing and love to teach and involve students. Both of these are busy services where you will get to consult the CTU lots and meet residents in the program who all rotate through. All the subspecialties are available at CHEO - whatever you end up with, generally you will get to do lots. Good luck with your search!
