lucy
Hey guys, I was wondering if I can get some opinions for my chances of getting into manitoba for PA school? My last 60 credit hours gpa is 4.25/4.5 or 3.89/4.0 scale I have some experience volunteering at hospital, senior home and am volunteering at an alzhiemers society and blood clinic right now. I am thinking about applying in November but I am very skeptical because only 12 people get accepted. For those who did get acceped or got an interview, if you dont mind can you share your experiences please? Any opinions and advice is appreaciated! tparno
Hey there! You have competitive statistics! You should definitely apply, I think you have a strong chance to get in. I just received my rejection for the September 2015 intake for PA at Manitoba. I got an interview but was put on the waitlist. After two months, they emailed me two days ago and said I was rejected. I have a Masters in Neuroscience and a publication. GPA (not too sure how they calculated it with the Masters) but for my undergraduate it's 3.89. I have experience as a phlebotomist (taking your blood) at a hospital and will be working at canadian blood services as a phlebotomist. I also worked in Tanzania, East Africa, as a volunteer medical assistant working at the HIV department, labor and delivery ward, and surgery. Everyone should apply!!! manitobapa
You should definitely apply. You never know how things will work out. I am a student in the program right now and I was amazed when I got my acceptance since it seemed like everyone was so much more qualified. Yes it is competitive but the effort is worth the reward in the end. I can't imagine doing anything else now.
Pearl.4
You should definately apply. You won't know until you try. For more information you can check out my blog http://eden-pa.blogspot.ca/ I talk about my experiences during the application process. Plus how I prepared for the interview and my approach to the personal letter.
Maxwe11
It seems as if GPA isn't that big of an advantage once it's over 4.0? I'd like to apply for next year's cycle and I have a 4.35/4.5 GPA, or a 3.97 GPA. However, my EC's are pretty average. Does anyone know how many people apply vs. how many get interviews? Appreciate it, thank you.
brobourne
Hey! I'm looking at apply to the UofM PA school and I want to know the criteria in which they select their students. Currently my GPA is around 3.4, which is below the average entering GPA. However, I have over 1000 hours of direct patient care (campus response, search and rescue, etc.) and I interview really well (not to brag). I also plan on trying to boost my grades to around a 3.6-3.7 for this year. Do you think I have an alright chance if I'm applying? Also, what do you guys know about the UofT and Mac PA programs? Many thanks, -C
synapsis87
Hi there, I am a recent graduate of the U of M program. The selection process is fairly holistic. Everything will give you points Ie. GPA, courses they suggest taking, interview, past experiences. Definitely give it a shot. Best of luck! xngn8r
I am amazed that people with such high GPA's are getting rejected. In US you could get into medical school with GPA like that and decent MCAT. Especially into DO school.
Siefer1322
As an Ontario resident, will I have a more difficult time getting into manitoba PA school? or will I be given a fair chance?
brobourne
Obviously you will be considered, or else why would they open applications to out of province applicants? However, I'm pretty sure Manitoba residents are given special consideration because they're more likely to stay in Manitoba after their degree. Hey, I saw that you were a recent graduate of the U of M program. I am from Ontario and was wondering if U of M takes preference of taking Manitoba applicants over others in the selection process?
