Oop Chances & File Review?

I am assuming this is your first application to UBC?

Unless they do something radically different this year, which who knows.. since they are getting rid of pre-reqs,

The formula for getting an interview.. is a mark out of 50 for your grades (Academic score (AQ) and a score out of 50 for your non-academics (NAQ) You will then get a combined score out of 100. There is a cut off for receiving an interview which changes each year. You can look at the stats from last year to see what it was which are on the website. There is a different cut off for in-province and out of province. I think last year was 52.5/100 for in-province and 60-something for out of province not sure exactly, but look at the statistics part of the website.

There is some weird formula they use to figure out what your score out of 50 will be for your grades. You can search on pre-med 101 and usually someone posts the formula each year. It does change usually each year, so don't expect your score out of 50 to stay the same each year because your marks do. It is standardized against other applicants I believe.

The score out of 50 for your non-academics is hard to gage. I have absolutely no idea how they score it. Just do your best on that part of the application and see. If you find the formula from last year, you can plug your average into it and find out approximately your score for the AQ part. You would then see how high you would have to score to get an interview on the NAQ portion based on last year's numbers. Keep in mind that they will change. I have no idea what will happen this year, but I expect the scores to get an interview to be higher because I think more people will apply because of no pre-reqs but again you never know what will happen each year.

Also, as far as I know, as long as your MCAT meets the cut offs it is not considered pre-interview at all.

Hope that helps!

So to answer your question, yes they will look at your file if you have over 85 and your MCAT meets the cut offs. If you are under 85 or MCAT scores are below then I believe they do not look at your application.
