wishfulMED
I am aware that the CMA has a relationship with Telus in regards to cell phone plans. I was wondering if people have gotten this deal, if other companies were able to offer something similar, etc. I think a data plan will be very useful while on the wards, but I don't want to break my budget (I find it ridiculous to pay upwards of 50$ and my current plan is below that). Any tips on best bang for your buck, how much data usage, etc.... Thank you.
EngineerFTW
It looks like Telus is the only company that provides a preferred rate deal with CMA now (others can hopefully help verify). With a little Google-Fu, I found this website that helped me compare different plans when I was looking (I have no affiliations) : http://www.comparecellular.ca/

The old rogers plan (which they just e nded) was pretty good. The telus one is better than most, but will cost you about 80 in the end after the initial 6months phase. I am now deciding with the do with the rogers one as the 3 years contract ended and they are upping the cost (although now I own the phone - so that confuses me ha). Considering something like a WIND plan right now. Edited September 2, 2016 by rmorelan Neji3 and wishfulMED
shikimate
In case you didn't know, your Eduroam account works at major hospitals/universities in both Canada, USA as well as many other countries. So you should have Wifi for vast majority of the hospitals you'll be working in. wishfulMED

Where does it say that it will be 80 after the 6 months? https://nexgenwireless.wirelessdealer.ca/b2b/ratePlanDetails.aspx?AC=AAN1B0DDZ995C4Z&productid=33253&packageId=3012333&rateplanid=18350&rtype=&mode=new&combo=true Looking at their website, I don't see anything. Harvestpro
it does go to 80 after 6 months. Source - me, ha - I got my parents that plan. So this freaked me out a bit. I just emailed them and mentioned this, and asked for confirmation that the $70 will stay for the full term of the contract. THis is what I got as a reply I wouldn't be able to confirm this information as we have not encountered a complaint regarding an increase in their rate plans. Clients are able to make changes to their rate plans and increase their data and airtime - so if that were the case they would surely have a higher plan price, but the 30% discount will always apply to the primary line for the duration of the contract and a year following. THis is what I got as a reply ok to be clear that was 80 with tax include (or rather 79 etc). Ha, we may be talking about different things For the first six months I was getting some form of a discount - I was charged 50 dollars a month including tax. The website says $70 pretax, so I thought that went up to $80. Makes sense now
jfdes
Would anybody be able to post the updated CMA plan, or confirm the details? Don't know if they are different but I am specifically looking for BC, and it needs login info I don't have just yet. https://www.cma.ca/En/Pages/telus.aspx

I don't want to twist the knife but that sounds awful... I have 7 GB for 59$ and paid 200$ for my Galaxy Note 8 (with the QC CMA deal). fz90
@Snowmen Would really appreciate it if you could share the plan available for Ontario residents? I am looking to get a new phone as well so it would be great to compare the rate offered by CMA.

Yeah, anything outside of SK, MB, and QC are pretty terrible for cell phone plans. My parents are getting reamed already with Telus though so I'm looking for other options in case they can't give them anything through the loyalty line. 15 hours ago, The Ace of Spades said: Current offer for BC residents through the Doctors of BC Telus plan: A $300 device credit will be applied to all 2 year new activation orders when the $80 5GB plan or $105 10GB plan is selected. In the Ontario one it specifically says no, but if you can for this it would be ideal. And I assume they include the phone with the plan for this, in addition to the $300 device credit off the top? It might've been directed marketing, but I only recently switched to this plan back at the end of April. I used to have unlimited call and text with them for $30/month (did the whole duo sim thing for a while, had a plan for $15/month with Wind for unlimited, i.e. 10GB/month, data) , and they sent me an email offering what I currently have.
