MDHopeful97
Hello friends, Casual question. Lets say a med applicant holds a PHD in a relevant scientific field, though their undergrad GPA is only 3.00 for example. What does this do to their chances? How is this regarded? Thanks friends. Edict
I think the only school that would consider them would be Mac and your chances would probably be minimal if your GPA really is that low. Most ontario schools have cutoffs, Mac has a low cutoff of 3.0 but your GPA ends up being 32% of your application, whereas having a PhD gives you 4%. Because 3.0 is the cutoff having a 3.0 essentially means you have the lowest possible GPA score whatever that is. The PhD probably would not be enough to save you but again we don't know for sure, since we don't know exactly what a 3.0 gives you GPA score wise. Your other scores your MCAT CARS and your CASPer determine 32% each, so overall unless you scored maximum on both with a PhD, your chances would be minimal. Lifeisawesome
Check out UBC - Having a conferred PhD gives you a big boost. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have gotten in. My undergrad GPA is only slightly higher than yours - 3.2.
MDHopeful97
Thanks very much for the replies my friends. This was a question a close friend of mine wanted an answer for - he is not on pre med 101. I personally am still in the early stages of my first undergraduate degree. Thanks again friends.
