ljbaron
Can someone please confirm this for me. I am currently working on my second undergrad at Western. Cumulative average is somewhere around 70% or 2.7 GPA. I can definitely raise my GPA to a 80% average over the next three years. My question is, does a 80% average at Western automatically convert to a 4.0 gpa when applying to US med schools?
uncharted1114
That's not how a GPA conversion works. You need to convert each individual course grade to a 4.0 scale and then average out all of those values. For example, if your 80% average is made up of one 65% and one 95%, then those would convert to a 1.0 and 4.0, and the average of those would then be a 2.5 GPA. Look at the bottom of the last page for the conversions: https://aamc-orange.global.ssl.fastly.net/production/media/filer_public/10/ab/10ab9407-7134-4477-9fc9-140d8acb35af/amcas_grade_conversion_guide.pdf
Blasé
You have to convert each individual course into a GPA first and then average them depending on if the course was a 0.5 or a 1.0 course. To answer your question, yes AAMC converts an 80+ to a 4.0 for students from Western.
