AAAmeds 32
I applied to McGill last year but did not receive an interview, unfortunately. I am reapplying again this year, and since I believe that my answers to the narratives from last year were very well-written, I am planning to just copy paste them for this year. Does anybody know if this is a bad idea (i.e. Adcoms go and check your answers from last year and prefer to see updated answers every year) or not?
Bambi 1,683
They don't check, but if the quality of your essays did not meet their standards, you are potentially setting yourself up for failure.
SpeedyPotato 172
I know I'm late on this, but you can actually ask to meet with them and tell you where you ranked in your PN. It'll give you an idea on whether or not you should make any changes.

Do you know if there is any chance that they would provide this info via email/phone calls instead of meeting up in person?

I think they might if you email them yes, although I went in person so I cant say for sure. I'd write to them that's for sure!

Email Admissions asking for your feedback, they'll forward your request to the right person.
MDmaybe99 71
Hey everyone, as interview invites are coming out soon, I'm starting to psych myself out more and more. I got an interview last cycle and ranked 2nd quintile for GPA and 3rd for CVPN. Knowing that my GPA increased only by 0,02 this year and my CVPN remained the exact same (I submitted the same answers), what would my chances be to get an interview again this cycle? tameimpala 92
No one could possibly answer that for you since the applicant pool will change each year. Just hang in there! Good luck tameimpala

May I ask what your degGPA was last year? I am curious what range last year's second quintile was. Also, were you second quintile relative to the OOP pool or IP pool? I'd appreciate any info! RedLily 216
So interviews are in the middle of the week? Wish I realized that earlier...... so I guess they are expecting us to miss school for the interview.. If you're lucky it's Monday, get it out of the way lol. In past years interviews were in late Feb, during most university's reading week, not sure why it's different this year.

Haribo7173 361
That's actually insane...
Vicodin 52
Uhhh I had a 3.83 GPA and was first quintile for GPA and for CVPN. Maybe they weigh recommended or advanced courses heavily?
Haribo7173 361
Interesting...what do you mean by 'advanced' courses? Like upper level courses?
Vicodin 52
Interesting...what do you mean by 'advanced' courses? Like upper level courses? Yes I mean upper level courses
Haribo7173 361
I always felt the academic context could always count for more than they probably say it does (10%) I'm assuming they really look at the overall picture... (eg 4.0 GPA student who took 3-4 classes a semester and 100 level electives all throughout their undergrad vs someone with a 3.80 with a full course load and many more upper level courses) Vicodin
MDmaybe99 71
Weird, I wonder how they calculate that.. i always took full course load each semester (minimum 5 classes) and the recommended upper level courses..
Haribo7173 361
Maybe it's the nature of the degree itself? I don't know, something feels fishy haha
SunAndMoon 583
Maybe Vicodin is in grad school or a professional program? Could be the nature of the degree, although I would tend to think that that is a bit unfair and arbitrary.
Vicodin 52
SunAndMoon- Nope I only did a 4 year undergrad (biomedical science) I remember them talking about my upper level courses and how they look at difficulty and stuff. So I agree with Haribo in that they would distinguish between someone who did part time studies in an unrelated field vs. someone doing full time studies in a related field. As well as how difficult the electives you chose were. I have a few friends with very high GPAs that took courses like Bee Keeping and Canadian Hockey for their electives...
