HopefulPT95
Hey everyone, from talking to a couple of other applicants and reading this forum I realized that some people would like to know their GPA before applying (or while waiting to hear back from schools) but do not quite understand how to calculate it. Therefore, I am sharing an excel spreadsheet that I made for others to calculate their GPA (I originally used it to calculate mine but figured why not include instructions and share it). The spreadsheets that I have set up will calculate the sub-GPA for ORPAS and the University of Alberta. To find your subGPA, all you need to do is find your last 20 credits on your transcript and follow the grade conversion charts that I included within the spreadsheet. To find your cGPA, all you need to do is input all of your credits on your transcript and follow the grade conversion charts. You then fill the rows and columns that I have already set-up and excel will calculate the rest for you. I also left instructions with the spreadsheet to follow and filled in a couple of rows/ columns for an example. If I get some feedback I can always edit and re-upload the spreadsheets to better them. I know that a couple of years ago I had no idea how to calculate my GPA and wished I knew how so I hope others will find this helpful. p.s. I could not upload the spreadsheet directly to this forum apparently because I do not have the access with my account but here are the links to the online spreadsheets. Let me know if there are any issues accessing the links. PTlyfe
Thank you so much. You are doing me a huge favor right now and I really really appreciate it. It you have time, would you be able to post how to calculate the cGPA as well? Thanks again.
HopefulPT95
Hey PTlyfe, I am happy that you found it useful! I edited my original post and added how to calculate cGPA for ORPAS. I don't quite have one for u of A yet though so hopefully that is all you needed, if not I can try to get one done by the end of the weekend! Question: My 19th and 20th course(s) fall within a term in which I took 4 courses. The average of this term was 3.78. How would I go about converting the average of this term using ORPAS's grade conversion guide? Thanks again
CurrentlyApplying!
YOU LITERALLY SAVED ME A WHOLE DAY OF TRYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT LOL. THANK YOU!!! Luckily my ORPAS sGPA avg and my regular transcript grades are only off by 0.1 if my math is correct using your spreadsheet. I took on less courses toward the end of my degree, so I ended up graduating after 5 vs 4 years. Soooo helpful. Now I can stop stressing. Hope you're living your best life good sir. xxscarlettexx
Hi HopefulPT95! I was wondering if you had any ideas on how the cGPA and subGPA calculations might change if a person didn't complete the traditional 5 ORPAS credits per semester in 3rd and 4th year? It appears that they weight/average things differently for the calculations if that's the case (via the info given on the website), but I'm a bit confused on how to apply it to my own circumstances (i.e., I completed the typical full time [5 half courses in Fall 2016, 5 half courses in Winter 2017], but then I also did 3 half courses for summer of 2017, 3 half courses for Fall of 2017, and I finished my degree with 4 half courses in Winter 2018). Any ideas on how grouping/the averages might change given my schedule? Any insight would be really appreciated! physiotd98

I did 4 courses each term for my last two years of undergrad.

ORPAS Website: Where course grades/lengths must be extracted from a grouping/duration to make up the 20 course grades/lengths required, we will use the average of the next grouping/duration of ORPAS GPA values. In the situation where “Full‑time”, “Supplementary” and “Semester” durations exist for the same year, we will use the “Supplementary” grades first, then “Semester” and then “Full-time” https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-gpa-calculations/#sub So I’m assuming your average in term 2 of second year will also apply. physiotd98
firewatch
I took 7 courses in the fall of 2019 after a year of co-op. Would it count the entire semester as the year?
