bearded frog Posted July 15, 2017 Report Share Posted July 15, 2017 As you can see, IM is increasing in popularity as a first choice (yellow line), as well as a back up (blue line) over time. At the same time, the number of available spots has peaked, and actually went down this year. This year was the first time that 1st choice applicants outranked available spots, as well as the record for fill rate. There is no reason to think this trend will change any time soon, as no new residency spots are on the horizon, and IM will likely to continue in popularity. Note that this trend is seen in most of the larger disciplines except for family medicine, which is actually becoming less popular. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
